The Rebirth of a
German Bank Barn

Rebuilding from ruins while retaining traditional design.....

The tragedy of a fire is so harsh I’m certain I can not imagine the pain of remembering those things lost. The resilient nature of people and their commitment to rebuild and move on is inspiring.

This property deserves a new timber frame barn, so I was told by the owner. Beginning with the burned remains we examined the original foundation for reuse and found the 100+ year old stone work to be just fine. About a year after the fire, we raised the new barn and witnessed the rebirth of a new friend and client.

Our efforts included a new Southern yellow pine timber frame, mortise and tenon joinery with pegs and a traditional German bank barn design. We had complete project responsibility.
